Denver part I.

Finally starting to write about my vacation in Denver. It is so beautiful, at one time driving in Karen's car, I said, "how could anyone look at this and not know God created it?"  So seeing the devastation from the floods has weighed heavy on my heart. My prayers go out to all the families that have lost so much. The first full day there I just rested, Karen works at home, but she planned Friday as our first adventure. Pike's Peak here we come. I have parasailed, been in a hot air balloon, but when I saw the train tracks that led to the top of the mountain, I wasn't sure I really wanted to take the cog train. Cogs didn't sound too safe to me, then I thought, what the heck it's been running for hundreds of years.
We stopped in the station to buy water and a small canister of oxygen. Karen said she got it because her friend Alice got dizzy when she got to the top.Right the wheel chair in the airport, now oxygen? The lady told me to drink half a bottle of water on the way up, and the other half on the way down, and she would be checking? What she didn't divulge was the line up for the rest rooms at the peak? This is the train in the station, Humming birds were feeding in the flowers but they were too fast for my camera.

We met such nice people on the train, and the scenery on the way up made me forget about the ascent of the train. The first two pictures are on the way up the mountain.

This is the peak. I've never been so high.

My friend Tom had told me that America the Beautiful was
inspired by the view from Pike's Peak. I took a picture of the plaque, you'd have to zoom in to read it. I dressed in my "all American Girl" sweater, just to show my allegiance. Next picture - drum roll please.

Karen displaying the mini oxygen inhaler. I was determined not to use it, but I was kind of dizzy and a little breathless when first walked from the train, I looked and she was using it, so I did too. I'm fairly sure she just did that so I would do it. Love you Karen.
Back down to earth we were in Manitou Springs. A fascinating small town, very hippy, my kind of place. Everybody knows I am still lost in the sixties as far as music goes. They had a gift shop called, Patsy's candies and gifts. It's been years since I was called Patsy but I had to take a picture.

Saturday we were going to Brown Palace for High Tea. We had never actually met Dianne and Teresa, I never even knew they lived in Denver, until Teresa posted a picture. I knew what they looked like from Face book photos, Teresa had made reservations, we were about ten minutes early, but the hostess said our table was ready and we could be seated. We kept looking for our friends, at 3:15 the hostess asked if would like to start, we said we'd wait a few minutes longer, at about 3:25 Karen's cell rang. I heard say, "Are you stuck in traffic?" She started laughing, Dianne and Teresa were sitting almost beside us. The hostess had told them they didn't have reservations and seated them to wait for us to arrive. The only logical explanation I have, is that the hostess (with the leastest) had deleted the reservation from the computer, when she seated us. So we started our new friendship with a good laugh.
The Palace is really elegant, the tea was sumptuous, and I can't believe I didn't take pictures of the food. We were having so much fun, and so busy chatting, and eating. The scones, clotted cream and preserves were wonderful. I just wish Teresa and Dianne weren't so far away, so glad we have face book.
Church in downtown Denver on the way to the palace.

Dianne, Karen, Teresa and moi.

Four Happy Ladies, and a visit I will never forget. I guess this will be continued.... more adventures to follow.
