I used to write for our Deep River Friends newsletter. mostly about the Lunch Bunch. We had a lot of fun and some interesting dining places. Our biggest crowd was usually the annual trip to the Fruit Cake Factory. I love that place we had as many as twenty people go there. I used to announce the trip in church and say that I heard they needed more nuts at Bear Creek.

Unfortunately the lunch bunch dwindled, BUT a few Friends go to lunch on Thursday. I have been able to join them for the past few weeks. I suggested we re-name our group the Lunch Bunch Leftovers. Amelia, Florence , Doris, Sandy , Ann, and myself are regulars sometimes we have others join us. Mary Evelyn is with us in spirit, she was always ready to go anywhere at a moment’s notice.

I’m not sure if we can put pictures in the newsletter, but I will copy this to my blog and add some pictures.
One of our recent lunches was at Mary and Dan’s place in the mountains. NC not VA, no wonder I get lost so much. Mary and Dan were such good hosts, Mary cooked us a Greek style lunch, and we took desserts. I should say Amelia did, she made custard pie and apple pie. From scratch no less.

A couple of weeks ago we went the Secret Garden Tea room on State Street . It was a fun place to visit. They had a huge variety of teas, real tea, the loose leaf kind. : )
I had a wonderful Darjeeling . They also had scones, served with cream and strawberry sauce. Not exactly like the Brit kind, but tasty.
This past Thursday we … well! I can’t tell where we went, I will spare the details to avoid embarrassing Amelia who always drives, and Florence her navigator. I was in the back seat and kept quiet. (Believe it or not?) Just let’s say our destination was not reached. We did end up in Yadkinville and found a China buffet restaurant, the food was really good so all was not lost, just us I guess. By then we were all so hungry, almost anything would taste good. I've come to the conclusion that I only have to be present in a car and we will get lost. I told Amelia this trip reminded me of my childhood in England. We used go on coach trips, in England we called them charabancs, Chara for short. They used to do Mystery Tours, we never knew where we were going but always ended up in Village Pub somewhere. This Mystery Tour ended up in a Chinese restaurant. Kind of appropriate as some of their food is kind of a mystery. I will end as Julia Childs used to say, “Bon Appetit.”
