I thought my return journey would be uneventful, I need to stop thinking so much. Karen got me to the airport in plenty of time, I'd been teary eyed that morning. I told her I always seem to be saying bye to my children, she pointed out she would be home for a visit in 3 weeks for a wedding. So I bucked up.
She stayed with me until I reached security, and then I was on my own. When I went there she insisted I have wheel chair assistance which I balked at, but as she said Denver airport is huge. More like humongous.
Now I was determined not to get patted down, the new screening process doesn't like sequins, I'd already found that out in FL. Going to Denver I wore a very small necklace, which was good, I only had my neck checked. Going home I wore nothing with sparkle, and no necklace, still I was taken to one side, the agent said she just had to check my hair? I told her it must be all the silver in it. I think it was my earrings.
Karen wanted me to to call her from my gate to be sure I wasn't lost. I stopped to get a bagel to eat on the plane, and went on 3 long moving walkways, was almost at my gate, and I remembered the crate you put your bag in it had a diagram for you to place your phone on, this was something new. Naturally being me I'd just picked up my bag. I panicked, I saw security person sitting in an alcove and explained my problem, she called on her walkie talkie and they told her I would have to go to lost and found. I told her I didn't have it in me to go all that way back, so she told me to call on the courtesy phone. I pressed the button for emergencies. I told them I didn't know if this was an emergency but I left my phone in security, by which time I was shaking and tearful, bordering on hysterics. She put me through to TSA. Told them my tale of woe, the man said I have a phone what kind is yours. Told him a Samsung. He said can you describe the picture on the screen. Thank goodness I remembered some kind of sunset. He said I will have someone bring it to you. I gasped a heartfelt thank you.
I went to give my name to the woman at the gate, went and sat down, beside a man and told him I needed to call my daughter or she'd panic and think I was lost in the airport. He gave me his phone and I called, as I was speaking to Karen, a security guard came up and placed my phone in my hand. Meanwhile Karen's asking me how I got the phone I was on, and I said a kind gentleman lent me his, and turned to thank the man that brought mine to me. Funny thing the man who lent me his phone got up and left, I never saw him again. Guess he'd had enough of this crazy old lady. Here's a travel tip, if something like this happens to you, try sounding weepy, and play the age card, the out of breath part was natural.
So I get on the plane and can't wait to be able to read my Kindle, about 90 mins into the flight, the attendant announces, "Medical emergency are there any medical personnel on board, doctors, paramedics, nurses?"
About 3 rows in front of me a lady had passed out. When we were leaving the plane, we had to wait while the paramedics came on board, and an ambulance was waiting outside. My dear friend Amelia was waiting for me, she was wondering if I needed the ambulance as there were only 2 planes that had just landed. Its good to be home, when I get my energy back I will post pictures. I visited so many beautiful places.
