Valentine's Day

When I used to write stories for our church newsletter, they were often about getting lost. To say I'm directionally challenged maybe politically correct but, it's putting it mildly. My children worried about it and gave me a GPS.
I chose David to be my guide. I liked his voice and he sounded gentle. Well! on Thursday I almost divorced him. I was going to a nursing home in Archdale to visit a friend, usually when I get on I-85 I go via Groomtown Road, David directed me to Spring Garden, I thought he was sending me to Holden Road to get on the Highway. To me that's like going backwards. He wasn't saying anything, so I tapped the screen to turn up the volume. Next thing I heard was - turn right and then right again. This usually happens when I've taken a wrong turn? I ended up from Holden back on Merritt. Frustration was setting in - "David", I whined. "if you wanted me on Merritt why did I drive past it to get to Holden?" I got back on Spring Gdn.and went on to Wendover,I decided to go to Adams Farm and go from there. By then I was so confused, to cut this never ending saga short, I finally got on I-85 but realized it was the old 85. Waaaaaaaaa! I recognized Baker Road so I exited there. Then should I go left or right? Pulled into a parking lot, and asked the nearest person, he said he'd look on his GPS. He told me to turn left and then left on Main. I needed a pit stop, so I pulled into Biscuitville and went to the restroom, there was one lady in front of me, she looked like Mama June? and her offspring was trying to outdo Honey Boo Boo. I looked and saw I only had two ones in my wallet, I wasn't sure if they took credit cards, so I turned to leave. The cashier asked if she could help me? I should have told her I was beyond help. By now my gas tank was on empty, filled up my tank, and arrived at the nursing home after 90 minutes it should have taken 30 minutes.
I'd long ago disconnected David, I later realized it was my fault, when I tried to adjust the volume, I must have hit home.
One thing about, what my Grand daughter calls my Nanny adventures, I pray a lot. After I visited my friend in the nursing home, I called my dear Brit friend Doreen and told her I was about a mile from her house and could I visit? When I got there she had made a lovely pot of tea and offered me some cake. so good after missing lunch. Doreen had lost one of her two sons just 2 weeks ago. It's so sad, but we had a good visit. This past week has been a sad one, we lost three people from our church family in a tragic accident. The Memorial Service yesterday, was so full of hope and so moving. It all makes my story seem so insignificant. I don't know how, in an area I know, I could get so lost. It's all a blur in retrospect, I'll try to write something happier next time.

More on Conover

I'm not sure if I have all the dates right. We moved around so much that my only point of reference is how old the children were when we were in any given state. Anyway I neglected to mention Karen my youngest, she and her brother and sister while they were in Puerto Rico went to private school, one of our perks, they were in grades 1-2 and 3, their entire curriculum was in Spanish with English as their foreign language. For a while they only understood arithmetic. I learned as much Spanish as I could, so that I could translate their homework, and then work with them to get it back into Spanish. It wasn't long before,

by playing with neighboring children, they were conversing in Spanish. It was kind of nice if they were arguing I had no idea what they were on about. Cher my eldest girl had Spanish as her foreign language, except for Social studies that was in Spanish. After I finished my blog which seems to go on too long, I remembered the first time I took Karen to the doctor's in Conover. Somehow she got locked in the bathroom, and I could hear her banging on the door and crying out, "Ay Dios Mio." Which now translates to O.M.G. I told my teenage grand daughter who is learning Spanish, instead of O.M.G. We must write A.D.M.
One thing I didn't like in Cayey, when I went to a store and asked for what I wanted in Spanish, they always answered in English. You can't win when you have a Brit accent.
